“Dinner on Monster Island” AND Dragonsinn.net Updates

I’ve reached episode #21 on my microcast. I’d like to do more recordings once I’ve made more progress on some projects.

In episode #21, I narrated my short review (posted on Goodreads) of Tania De Rozario’s memoir, “Dinner on Monster Island.”

TANIA’S BOOK on Amazon:

I first met Tania in 2012 during a writers’ event in Singapore. I’ve been a big fan of her work ever since.

Jess and Tania discussing writing. Throwback pic of us from late 2012! Thanks to The Arts House for the photo.

Shoutout also to confessional poet Cyril Wong whom I met at the same time.

I’m grateful I had the chance to meet them in person as I now live in the U.S. and don’t travel super frequently between the two countries (it’s a very lonnnnnng flight!!).

Dragonsinn.net Updates

I’ve been making a lot of updates here and there on my first website (est. 1999), because I hadn’t been blogging often over there for a long while.

I’ve chosen to toggle between the classic and block editor on WordPress for that blog, and that’s been going OK so far.

What started out as a small, 7-page website grew into a bigger website in the mid-2000s, then morphed into a blog in the late 2010s.

Most recently, I’ve added a “shop” section showcasing some of my original dragon art or sketches.

Here’s one on a T-Shirt:

I’ll be stoked when I hit my first 10 dragon designs (I’m currently working on polishing the 5th).

It’s a bit tricky to monetize as I’ve enjoyed keeping it as a hobby website where I initially collected dragon research tidbits. My long-term aim is for the shop to cover my yearly web hosting costs.

I had Google Adsense on the website for a while which was going along nicely, until the GDPR / mandatory cookie notices drove me nuts. It gets in the way of an enjoyable site experience for me, so I chose to pause those ads for now and focus on my art projects instead.

I’ve not featured any AI art on that website (no matter how grand or shiny) due to the intellectual property issues associated with AI generated art.

I also updated and rearranged the about page on Dragonsinn. The original version was quite rambling and going all over the place, so this one is (hopefully) a little more straightforward, especially at the beginning.

I’ve also neatened up the website screenshots section of Dragonsinn since it went online.

Is anyone reading this working on any creative writing or art projects? Or a dragon enthusiast? 🐉

Let me know! I’m always happy to hear from kindred spirits.
