Hey everyone, it’s Jess. Welcome back to a tiny update from my location in northeast Maine, where I think we’re just at or past peak autumn foliage.
I like walking around at this time as the air feels like a reminder to enjoy walking and taking in your surroundings.
Nature Walk Shorts
I’ve been posting short nature walk videos to my equally tiny YouTube channel (@JessWriting).
When I was younger, growing up in Singapore, I didn’t quite understand the appeal of hiking. Cityscapes were my norm.
But now, especially in autumn, I find myself drawn to walking in the woods and seasonal shifts. I mean I did often think about being or walking in the woods when I was younger, so I’m glad I’ve managed to do that quite often here 🌲
Modern Gothic & Resurfaced Poetry
Creatively, I recently worked on a couple of modern Gothic poems that I submitted to The Broken Spine anthology.
There’s also a forgotten dragon poem that’s resurfaced lately. It may or may not make its way into Volume One of my dragon collection, but I might share it here or on the channel soon. It’s got that reflective or mythical feel I’ve been tending to in that first collection.
On the professional side, things are moving along gently. I still need to declutter (digitally and physically) for a clearer mind. It’s part of my emotional infrastructure work, I suppose. My digital folders are like a house of horrors…
A Cosy YouTube
If you feel like supporting my tiny poetry + art YouTube channel, I’m aiming for at least 10 subscribers by the end of the year.
I’ll be sharing:
- poetry
- nature walks
- occasional cat videos
- art books,
- and maybe occasional reflections—whatever feels resonant
I’m building it as a cosy, visual space at a flexible pace.
The narration or voice notes I’ve been posting on the microcast definitely help with narrating videos, so maybe I’ll share some thoughts on that in a future episode!
Thanks for being here. 🍂
