Microcast Day 6 – Unexpectedly Enjoying YouTube Shorts

Hi all, and welcome back to Day 6 of my flexible microcast challenge.

Today I’m talking about something I didn’t expect to find all that thrilling at first: making YouTube Shorts.

If anyone listening is an Aries Rising sign…you might relate! ♈

Here’s a super short astrology story before I continue.

I discovered my moon and rising signs when I was eighteen, and before that I only knew myself as a Virgo sun. But I always felt like I had pieces of other zodiac signs in me too, so seeing my full chart was very clarifying.

I still love the Astrodienst website for that.

Anyway, one of the first Shorts I ever made was a simple autumn rain video. I added a little narration because I genuinely love rainy weather, and I threw in some cute graphics in Canva. It was relaxing to look back on, and a couple of strangers even commented on it (I think one was from Texas).

After that, I started taking more short clips while autumn hiking 🍂

I like that Shorts can be quick and raw, without fancy editing. Just point, shoot, and keep walking. I don’t like cumbersome prep or equipment, especially when I’m trying to actually enjoy what I’m doing.

What surprised me was how my sense of humour would often slip in: through little tragicomic comments, or tiny storytelling ideas that would pop up while narrating.

Right now I’m putting together a “checking the mail” winter edition, filmed here in Downeast Maine.

I don’t really vibe with TikTok or Instagram or Facebook reels. TikTok especially feels too fast for my pre‑algorithm millennial brain.

"Reading books, for example, stimulates your mind differently and can be a pleasant break from screen time." 📚Great article from ReNu Counselling & Psychotherapy.renucounselling.ca/tiktok-brain/

YouTube is one place where I can build a slower archive for now, almost like a mythic journal, at my own pace.

That’s today’s reflection.

Small videos, small joys, and a format that my personality unexpectedly enjoys.
